Brendan Bayliss Covers Talking Heads, Ween, Bob Marley & More On ‘Wine Not’

29

Brendan Bayliss continued his Wine Not livestream series on Friday. The Umphrey’s McGee guitarist delivered choice covers from Talking Heads, Ween, Bob Marley and more along with a few UM originals.

Bayliss kicked things off by sharing his wine of the evening and asking how everyone was doing before joking “I can’t hear you, but I’m assuming you’re just as miserable as everybody else.” Brendan then got the music underway with UM’s “Made To Measure,” the opening track on the band’s 2009 album Mantis, before heading into Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home.” After discussing the audio quality with his wife Annie Bayliss and giving a shoutout to Murphy Browning (daughter of UM manager Kevin Browning) on her birthday, Bayliss returned to Umphrey’s material with “In The Kitchen” which led into Bob Seger’s “Turn The Page.” Talking Heads’ “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” came next ahead of UM’s “2×2” which encompassed the Jane’s Addiction classic, “Jane Says.”

Annie then joined in (with a lightsaber) to sing Dolly Parton’s “9 To 5” before Brendan continued with Bob Marley’s “Kaya.” Next, Bayliss headed over to the piano — where he would stay for the rest of the stream — for UM’s “Push & Pull” followed by the piano-driven Ween song “Even If You Don’t.” Bayliss then busted out the Umphrey’s rarity “Baby Honey Sugar Darlin’,” a staple for the band in the late 1990s but tapering off in the early 2000s and only played three times after 2002 with the last UM performance happening on October 18, 2018 as per All Things Umphreys. Bayliss then headed into Guns ‘N’ Roses “Estranged” before returning to “BHSD” to close out the set.
