Chris Robinson Appears On ‘Eric Krasno Plus One’ Podcast

Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes is Eric Krasno‘s guest on the latest episode of the Osiris podcast Eric Krasno Plus One. Chris discusses his early days in the music industry, the massive success of The Black Crowes’ 1990 debut studio album Shake Your Money Maker, the loss of Neal Casal and more in Episode 4 of the recently launched podcast.

Kraz and Chris begin by speaking about The Black Crowes’ reunion tour, which as of press time is scheduled to start in June. Eric attended the band’s November show at Bowery Ballroom and had high praise for the group’s new lineup. Robinson then discusses the huge impact R.E.M. had on him and that a band from Georgia could hit it big before detailing other acts that influenced him.

Eric recalled his experience touring with Chris when the CRB teamed with the Tedeschi Trucks Band while Krasno was the bassist for TTB. Kraz noted Robinson introduced him to plenty of new music over the course of the run. The conversation then turned to the music of the Grateful Dead and how Chris was turned onto their tunes in 1991. “I went to my first show, they just happened to be coming through town, and that was it,” Robinson explained. “Once I got in there and felt the energy of 16 thousand people at The Omni, everyone tripping their face off, I felt ‘Oh, that’s different!’” He said his New Earth Mud record was heavily influenced by Jerry Garcia’s first solo record. Then, Chris met Phil Lesh and had the thrill of working with the GD bassist.

The conversation then turned to Chris forming the Chris Robinson Brotherhood. Robinson spoke of how he met Neal Casal and the musical relationship they had. “I found him to be easy to compose with,” Chris said of working with Neal. He then noted he’s still numb from Neal’s death which was “gutwrenching” for Chris. “I can’t listen to the CRB right now,” Robinson added. The musicians finished up by discussing the COVID-19 pandemic and the current state of politics.

Episode 4 ends with the CRB track “Rosalee.” The next five installments will feature Emily King, John Mayer, Mac Ayres, John Scofield and Derek Trucks, respectively.
