In honor of today’s Teacher Appreciation Day, Pearl Jam shared pro-shot video featuring frontmanEddie Vedder‘s rendition of “We’re Going To Be Friends” from the band’s August 8, 2018 concert at Seattle’s Safeco Field. Vedder dedicated the White Stripes’ cover to the teachers of Seattle and was joined by two of his kids and their favorite teachers.
“There’s one part of the community and one job in particular that deserves so much more notoriety than they receive. There are those who teach our children and teach them well,” Eddie said as part of an introduction to the song. “We’ve had the opportunity, we’re very blessed to have had some teachers that changed our kids’ lives.” He then asked those in the capacity crowd to raise their hand if they had one teacher who changed their life.
“We have two special teachers that my kids brought tonight that I wanted to allow them some notoriety and some applause and some recognition from their fine group of neighbors here in Seattle,” Vedder continued. “And I’d like to play this for them, borrowed from my friend Jack.” The White Stripes — featuring Jack & Meg White — originally released “We’re Going To Be Friends” on 2001’s White Blood Cells.
