SharkBelly Festival Includes Belly Up Archival Recordings Featuring Toots & The Maytals, ALO, Greyboy Allstars & More

155

Dozens of never-before-heard live recordings taped at the Belly Up nightclub in Solana Beach, California are available for purchase as part of the venue’s “SharkBelly Festival.” Each digital download comes straight from the venue’s archives and can be bought for only 90 days via BellyUpLive.com.

Performances from Toots & The Maytals, ALO, Greyboy Allstars, Charlie Musselwhite, Macy Gray, Ozomatli, Yonder Mountain String Band, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Beats Antique, The Motet and The Brothers Comatose are among those up for sale during this new brand of digital festival, which takes its name from the red-eyed, 20-foot paper mache shark that hangs above the Belly Up’s bar. Each download costs $7.99 and benefit both the venue and participating artists while the Belly Up is closed and musicians are off the road during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With so many people reaching out to see what they could do to support us while the venue is closed, we felt this was a great time to focus on downloads because each download generates money immediately for the club and the artists,” explained Chris Goldsmith, President of Belly Up Entertainment in a statement. “The sound quality and the vibe captured in our room is undeniable. When we put out a few recordings right after we were shut down, the response we got from fans in Southern California, and around the world, was incredibly encouraging,” added Goldsmith. “As more and more artists agreed to the concept, we realized that this had the feeling of a very unique, global ‘festival,’ one that is maybe only possible in a time like this.”

Sets from Adolescents, Aggrolites, Anderson East, Arise Roots, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Blind Boys of Alabama, Bob Schneider, Built to Spill, Charlie Musselwhite, Don Carlos, English Beat, Eric Hutchinson & the Believers, The James Hunter Six, Jeff Daniels and the Ben Daniels Band, John Brown’s Body, Johnny Clegg, Junior Brown, Marc Broussard, Nahko and Medicine for the People, Over The Rhine, Rufus Wainwright, Save Ferris, Seun Kuti and Egypt 80, Skatalites, Soul Rebels, Tommy Castro & the Painkillers, Too Many Zooz, Victoria Canal, The White Buffalo, X and Zap Mama with Antibalas round out the list of those available for download. Head to BellyUpLive.com to purchase or for more information.
