Keyboardist/vocalist Neal Francis played a set for the Live From Out There virtual music festival that aired on Monday which included a Parliament cover. Francis led his band through the legendary funk act’s “Come In Out Of The Rain” and video of the performance can be viewed below.
“Come In Out Of The Rain” was written by Ruth Copeland and Clyde Wilson. Parliament released the song as a single in 1972 on Invictus Records and “Come In Out Of The Rain” appears on reissues of the band’s 1970 debut studio album, Osmium. Neal Francis belts out lyrics such as “When will the people start gettin’ together?” and “Learnin’ to live and love one another?” in a passionate way befitting of the time in which we live.
Neal’s band for the session included vocalist/organist Kellen Boersma, bassist Mike Starr, guitarist Justin Canavan and drummer Collin O’Brien. Francis asks viewers to donate to the Chicago Community Bond Fund. Watch Neal Francis’ cover of “Come In Out Of The Rain” below:
Live From Out There continues today with sets from Zach Williams of The Lone Bellow, Twiddle frontman Mihali’s “A Tribute To The ’90s,” Hiss Golden Messenger, Cory Wong and more. The virtual festival ends on Wednesday with a full slate that includes performances by Midnight North, Brock Butler, Keller Williams, Dispatch and others.
