Norah Jones Covers Duke Ellington & Performs New Song

116

Norah Jones shared video of Duke Ellington’s “Fleurette Africaine (African Flower).” The singer-songwriter and pianist also shared what appears to be a new original piece she’s working on.

Ellington’s “Fleurette Africaine (African Flower)” originally appears on the jazz legend’s 1962 album, Money Jungle, which also features his fellow jazz luminaries bassist Charles Mingus and drummer Max Roach. Jones included the song on her 2016 album, Day Breaks.

Norah then played a moving piece labeled “Work in progress” in the video notes, where she also shared that she dedicates both songs “to the family of George Floyd and all the families of those who have died unjustly at the hands of people in power,” Jones wrote. “Actions speak volumes,” she continued. “I wish you all love and safety, Norah.”
