Stream Tom Petty’s ‘You Don’t Know How It Feels’ Demo From ‘Wildflowers’ Project

Tom Petty‘s 8-track demo recording of his song “You Don’t Know How It Feels” is available to stream. The track appeared on Petty’s 1994 solo album, Wildflowers. The demo, featuring alternate lyrics, was shared by Petty’s estate and will be part of an upcoming “Wildflowers project on Warner Records.”

Petty died in 2017 at the age of 66. Prior to his death, Petty discussed a desire to embark on a Wildflowers Tour featuring an expanded version of the album that would include several songs left off the record. A posthumously published article in Rolling Stone revealed Petty’s desire to have Norah Jones participate in the tour that ultimately never happened.

“The family and the band are in a joyful process of discovering the Wildflowers sessions and demos and wanted to share a tiny bit of that with the fans today,” Tom Petty’s daughter Adria Petty stated on behalf of the Petty family. An additional statement from the family reads:

The demo, recorded in his home studio, is stunning and intimate. The song, well known for the lyric “Let’s get to the point, and let’s roll another joint” has slightly different lyrics. It shows an insight to his writing process and introduces a line from another favorite Wildflowers track “Crawling Back To You” stating, “most things I worry about never happen anyway.”
