Billy Strings Covers Grateful Dead & John Hartford At Capitol Theatre: Pro-Shot Video

118

Billy Strings shared video of covers from the Grateful Dead and John Hartford during his January 18 concert at the Capitol Theatre. Billy tackled Hartford’s “All Fall Down” followed by the Dead classic “Wharf Rat.”

John Hartford’s “All Fall Down” appears on his 1972 album, Morning Bugle, while the Dead’s “Wharf Rat” was a live staple for the band. Billy Strings’ “All Fall Down” into “Wharf Rat” section — captured by Relix and FANS.com — kicked off the second set.

Check out JamBase’s coverage from the show below:

The covers kept rolling to kick off the second set with John Hartford’s “All Fall Down,” which the band stretched out a bit on before trickling into the Grateful Dead’s “Wharf Rat.” Another debut for Strings, the psychedelic Garcia/Hunter tune was a crowd-pleasing choice for Strings to cover at The Cap, which was one of Jerry’s favorite haunts. Billy’s version was on point: shimmering picking, gorgeous harmonies on the “I’ll get up and fly away” section and soaring soloing from Strings.
