Dave Matthews Fits Rarities Into ‘Live From Home: By Request’ Set For SiriusXM

39

SiriusXM’s DMB Radio aired Dave Matthews Live At Home: By Request on Friday. Fans led Matthews to deliver Dave solo rarities including “Cry Freedom” and the debut of “Pig” during the career-spanning set.

The SiriusXM session — which was recorded at an earlier date and featured video requests from fans — kicked off with “Cry Freedom,” which Matthews played on an electric guitar. The last time Dave performed the song solo came on September 7, 2002, as per DMBAlmanac. Dave continued with the live favorite “Loving Wings,” which has never appeared on a studio album but is the most released live song in the Dave catalog. Relatively new song, “Here On Out,” from DMB’s latest studio album, Come Tomorrow, came next ahead of the classic, “The Best Of What’s Around” from 1994’s Under The Table And Dreaming.

The requests brought Dave back to Come Tomorrow with the album’s opener, “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin),” followed by the Dave solo debut of “Pig” from 1998’s Before These Crowded Streets. The unreleased song “Sister” — which Dave has said is about his sister Jane and how she helped him through a case of writer’s block — came ahead of more vintage DMB in “#41.” “Grey Street” from 2002’s Busted Stuff followed by “You & Me” from 2009’s Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King prefaced the program closer, “Sweet.” Although he played guitar for the SiriusXM version, “Sweet” is the only song Dave has ever played live on a ukelele.
