The livestream, hosted by Bardavon executive director Chris Silva, began with Medeski and Jack DeJohnette‘s instrumental take on the album’s opening track “Like A Rolling Stone”. With a song whose lyrics have become so iconic, it was interesting to step back and examine the music, and the joint performance served as a telling opener of reimaginings to come. Next up was The Weight Band with its upbeat take on “Tombstone Blues”, followed by The Darwin Effect featuring Jimmy VivinoRich Pagano, and John Sebastian with the bluesy “It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry”.

Next up was Guy Davis‘ acoustic version of “From A Buick 6”, which provided an interesting juxtaposition to the former cover by The Darwin Effect. After that Steve Earle took on “Ballad Of A Thin Man” where the outlaw country-singer’s baritone voice provided a timber that was a far cry from Dylan. Lucinda Williams was up next to provide her dreamy, electrified rendition of “Queen Jane Approximately”, followed by The B-52’s singer Katie Pierson who gave a full-bodied performance of the album’s title track.

The party slowed down a bit as Happy TraumLarry Campbell, and Cindy Cashdollar offered their acoustic rendition of “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues”, followed by the album’s closing track, “Desolation Row”, performed by Mike + Ruthy. The evening wasn’t finished just yet, however, as Laura Stevenson gave a bonus performance of the Highway 61 Revisited outtake “Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window” to bring the stream to an end.
