The 40th annual Theatre Within charity concert in tribute to John Lennon will take place virtually this year with previously unseen and newly recorded performances from Jackson Browne, Patti Smith, Natalie Merchant, Taj Mahal, Rosanne Cash, Bettye LaVette, and more. The event will broadcast online beginning October 9th at 7 p.m. ET (on what would have been Lennon’s 80th birthday) through October 12th at midnight, organizers announced on Wednesday.
In partnership with Gilda’s Club NYC and Gilda’s Club Westchester, Theatre Within provides the John Lennon Real Love Project songwriting workshops and workshops in art, meditation, writing personal essays, and much more for children, teens, and adults impacted by cancer.
“For 40 years, Theatre Within has remembered John with its heartfelt annual tribute, while having a powerful positive impact with its John Lennon Real Love Project music program for those impacted cancer,” Yoko Ono said in a statement shared to the event website. “What a wonderful way to honor John and his highest values!”

Earlier this month the Lennon estate and Capitol/Universal Music confirmed the forthcoming deluxe box set featuring over 30 songs from his beloved solo catalog with Gimme Some Truth. The Ultimate Mixes, due out October 9th.
