Bonnaroo Postpones Festival For Third Time, Will Now Take Place Fall 2021

The next Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival has been pushed even further into the future, according to a new announcement from festival organizers on Tuesday. The festival will now take place on September 2nd–5th, 2021.

The story of Bonnaroo’s various postponements over the past several months presents a quintessentially “2020” narrative. Originally announced on January 7th of this year, the 2020 edition of the Manchester, TN festival was set to take place on June 11th–14th, 2020. Then, on March 18th, as the scope of the coronavirus’ inevitable effects on the live events industry suddenly became quite apparent, Bonnaroo organizers postponed the 2020 event to late September of this year—a common reaction from large-scale, early-summer festivals at that time. However, as the scope of the pandemic worsened in the U.S. in late June, the Bonnaroo team made the call to throw in the towel on 2020 and instead look toward next year, pushing the postponed September dates back to June 17th–20th, 2021.

The festival did manage to provide fans with a weekend of entertainment on the initial rescheduled September dates this past weekend with a three-day streaming event featuring new and archival performances from a slew of Bonnaroo artists, dubbed Virtual ROO-ALITY.

That brings us to Tuesday’s announcement. For those keeping track, since the last Bonnaroo took place last summer, the festival has officially announced four different dates for the next installment. The many Roo postponements provide a telling look at the universal uncertainty facing the live music industry at this time. Everyone is working very hard to make things work and make them safe, but the goal posts are constantly moving. Here’s hoping the country is ready by the time lucky number four rolls around next September.

As festival organizers noted in a social media post announcing the new… new… new dates,

We want to thank you for being a loyal Bonnaroovian, and we appreciate your patience as we navigate the best options to ensure we can be together on the Farm in 2021.

The dates we originally announced for Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival 2021 have changed. Bonnaroo will now take place on September 2-5, 2021. Information on lineup, camping and accommodations will be available at a later date.

We encourage you to rollover your tickets to the new dates, however, we will make refunds available for those who cannot attend.
