Guitarist Cory Wong continues to release new content for fans with his latest two live albums, The Syncopate & Motivate Tour (Set 1) and The Syncopate & Motivate Tour (Set 2). The two companion live albums feature a collection of cuts Wong’s 2019 U.S. and European Syncopate & Motivate Tour in support of his 2019 LP, Motivational Music For The Syncopated Soul, with the two volumes broken into two “sets”. The two live albums include 29 total live tracks and feature guests Antwaun Stanley, Caleb Hawley, and Phoebe Katis.
Ever-prolific throughout the ongoing live music hiatus, The Syncopate & Motivate Tour Sets 1 and 2 mark the versatile guitarist’s sixth and seventh album releases of 2020.
“The live experience is completely different than the studio,” says Wong of the new releases. “As an artist, it allows me a certain freedom of exploration. After a song comes out on an album…it evolves and grows. Night after night, rooms are different, crowd vibe is different, and we’re always growing and learning from the previous show. Touring is incredibly fun…and I miss it a lot. When I listen to these live recordings, I hear more than the songs — I hear the tour moments that went along with them.”
Off the road for the majority of the year, Wong has worked diligently to release fresh content for fans. In addition to a pair of companion acoustic albums, Trail Songs: Dusk and Trail Songs: Dawn, Cory collaborated with Jon Batiste on the ambient Meditations EP, issued a Live In Amsterdam concert album alongside the Metropole Orkest, and the sister studio album to his 2019 LP, Elevator Music for an Elevated Mood. Along with his numerous releases, Wong teamed up with Premier Guitar in the spring to launch his own Wong Notes podcast series on which he talks to other notable guitarists including Béla Fleck, John Scofield, Molly Tuttle, Eric Johnson, and more.
