Goose Debuts Elvis Presley Cover At Yarmouth Drive-In

Goose returned to Cape Cod’s The Yarmouth Drive-In on Saturday to complete a two-night run of socially distanced concerts. The quartet and percussionist Jeffrey Arevalo unveiled a full-band version of “His Latest Flame,” a song popularized by Elvis Presley as part of Saturday’s show.

Arevalo was on hand for the entire concert as he was the previous night and during “Bingo Tour” performances. Up first on Saturday was a pairing of “Creatures” and “Butter Rum.” Then, Goose brought out longtime crew member Jon “Coach” Lombardi to add rainstick to “Honeybee.”

The first set continued with the Goose premiere of “(Marie’s The Name) His Latest Flame,” which was penned by Doc Pomus and Mart Shuman and scored Elvis Presley a hit in 1961. Guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach and Arevalo previously covered the tune during an acoustic set this past spring. A slow and melodic “All I Need” gave way to “The Whales” to end the first set.

Saturday’s second set was a four-song, improvisation-heavy affair. Mitarotonda led Goose through “Slow Ready” to kick off the frame, which bled into a cover of Fat Freddy’s Drop’s “Fish In The Sea.” Another aquatic-themed tune, “Your Ocean” came next. Then, Goose delivered a set-closing “Hot Tea.” For the encore, the band played their original “Drive” in between covers of Bruce Hornsby’s “The Way It Is” and The Clash’s “Rock The Casbah.”

Goose takes the stage at South Farms in Morris, Connecticut for the first of two socially distanced outdoor concerts at the venue this Wednesday, September 16.
