Last month, the Connecticut live music scene lost a pillar of its community with the passing of Joe Manganello, better known as Joe Mango. Through his years of running sound for Kung Fu and at BRYAC Black Rock in Bridgeport, he became a fixture live music community in the area. As a founder of the annual Soupstock Music Festival and a staff member of Gathering of the Vibes, Catskill Chill, and many more, he made an impact on countless acts both large and small.
This past weekend, members of the Connecticut music scene and beyond gathered to honor the legacy of Joe Mango. Dubbed The Mango All Stars, the nearly six-hour streaming event brought together members of Goose, Kung Fu, Eggy, Star Kitchen, The Breakfast, Jazz Is Dead, SchwizZ, Electric Beethoven, and many, many more for an unforgettable night of music.
The Mango All Stars livestream also served a good cause in raising money for Joe’s end of life costs. Additionally, the stream also raised money for the Mary A. Schmecker Turtle Shell Fund, a non-profit organization that seeks to enhance the arts community in Connecticut.
The stream featured wall-to-wall highlights from many of the acts that Mango saw grow throughout the Northeast. Beginning with the BYRAC Funk All Stars, featuring an assortment of familiar faces from the Bridgeport venue, the evening saw countless one-time collaborations from local and nationally-renowned artists. The stream also hosted full band performances from Santana tribute act Borboleta, The Alpaca Gnomes, The Breakfast, Deep Banana Blackout, Eggy, Kung Fu, Goose, and many more.
