Happy Birthday B.B. King: Collaborating With Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi In 2011

Riley B. King, better known as B.B. King, was born in Mississippi on this date in 1925. B.B. revolutionized blues guitar over the course of his 89 years on the planet before he succumbed to multiple health issues on May 14, 2015. While it’s his musicianship that helped him earn the title “King Of The Blues,” he also had a great sense of humor which he often showed off on stage.

B.B. King performed before a capacity crowd at the famed Royal Albert Music Hall in London on June 28, 2011. The bluesman welcomed a number of guests that night including Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. King was incredibly fond of both Susan and Derek and he cracked the pair up throughout”Rock Me Baby” in London.

B.B. quipped “I see why you married him!” as Trucks took a slide solo. He then asked Susan to sing the first verse and had a funny response to each line she sang. Watch King display his comedic wit:

Derek and Susan also contributed to B.B. King’s version of “You Are My Sunshine” on June 28, 2011 at Royal Albert Hall. Once again, B.B. provided play-by-play while Derek played. King wasn’t pleased with the crowd’s lack of reaction to Derek’s first solo and told the audience, “Now if you can’t give this man a hand for that, I want to know what’s wrong with your ears.” Here’s video of King, Tedeschi and Trucks performing “You Are My Sunshine” in London:
