On Thursday, Kendall Street Company released “Go On”, the latest single from the group’s forthcoming album, The Stories We Write For Ourselves, set for release on October 23rd.

“Go On” joins the previously-released single “Lady in Green” from the Charlottesville, VA-bred quintet’s fifth album. The single’s release also comes on the heels of Kendall Street Company’s Labor Day The Company Picnic socially-distanced shows. The band was set to perform at a Virginia shopping center this coming weekend, but that show has now been postponed to spring.

The song, written by vocalist Louis Smith, centers around the idea of self-care as the group looks inward at the struggles of social temptations. Opening as an acoustic number, the song, much like the group itself, doesn’t remain confined to one genre. From the opening strums of a guitar, the song finds its legs as a piano, symbols, and a saxophone join in. Before long “Go On”, a song about finding one’s own way, has become a communal exercise in the strength-in-numbers approach to wellness.

The song is reflective of the approach Kendall Street Company has taken on The Stories We Write For Ourselves, according to a statement. The soft, dreamy style found on “Go On” is said to be evident of a renewed approach to serious songwriting, one that early adopters of the fairly-new group will no doubt recognize on the latest single.
