In a time when live music is virtually non-existent, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morison, CO treated fans to a late-season treat this past week. The venue, which was ordered to close its doors as of October 1st until COVID-19 related conditions pertaining to live events improve, announced a string of socially-distant shows to bring the iconic music venue to life for a few nights under cool September skies.

On Sunday September 27th, a lucky slew of 175 fans were permitted into the venue to watch jamtronica band Lotus play two full sets of music while they streamed a special live performance for Nugs.net. The band took advantage of this rare occasion to showcase their signature blend of bouncy funk and electronic rock music on one of the most famed stages in all of live music.

Having just released their newest LP Free Swim, the band offered up an eclectic setlist spanning their entire career—all the while letting their new tracks stretch their legs. New selections such as the house-tinged “Catacombs” and the laid back “Land of the Lush” gave fans a view of just how well suited Free Swim’s tracks are for the live spotlight. As the show went on, the album title Free Swim seemed to become more and more of a fitting theme: A band guided by rhythm and feeling, yet free to float along and explore different musical corners and depths.
