Metallica guitarists James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett delivered a virtual performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” ahead of a San Francisco Giants home game last week. While members of the metal band typically participate in the annual ‘Metallica Night’ in affiliation with the San Francisco baseball club, this year’s shortened/fan-less Major League Baseball season has forced the two musicians to perform the traditional gameday song from afar.

A video shared by the ballclub below showcases the duet’s rock-inspired performance of the United States’ National Anthem which played before the game against the Colorado Rockies at San Francisco’s Oracle Park on September 23rd. It’s also worth noting that bassist Robert Trujillo threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the game in a pre-shot video filmed in an alley.

Last month Metallica released their S&M2 live album/concert film box set highlighting their September 2019 performances alongside the San Francisco Symphony which took place at the newly-opened Chase Center.
