The first half of the lineup for the 46th season of the landmark concert program Austin City Limits has been announced. This year’s schedule of performances will feature Yola, Rufus WainwrightJackie Venson, and The Mavericks, in addition to encore presentations of past performances and tributes to John PrineStevie Ray Vaughan, and Asleep at the Wheel.

All of the tapings for the 46th season of Austin City Limits, with the exception of Yola, were filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic and without an audience. This season, set to begin on October 3rd with a tribute to Prine, will also see encore presentations of John Legend with The Roots from 2011, as well as Bonnie Raitt‘s 2012 concert.

The season-opening tribute to John Prine will feature a look back on Prine’s eight appearances on the program between 1978 and 2018, and also feature an introduction from Jason Isbell. The following week will see Yola’s debut performance on Austin City Limits, footage from which is seen in a promotional video for the new season. After that is the program’s tribute to Austin’s native son Stevie Ray Vaughan, dubbed Stevie Ray Vaughan: 30 Years On, which will commemorate three decades since the guitarist’s death in a helicopter crash.

Then on October 24th, singer-songwriter Wainwright will make his debut appearance on Austin City Limits, followed by a Halloween airing of the program’s ACL Presents: 50 Years of Asleep at the Wheel tribute to the seminole group. The following week audiences will be treated to an encore presentation of John Legend performing with The Roots, as well as an encore presentation of Raitt’s performance the week after that. Also paired up with the Raitt rerun on November 14th will be a new set from Austin native Jackie Venson whose performance, along with The Mavericks’ the following week, will be streamed live.

“As we launch a brand new season in very uncertain times, ACL continues to break new ground,” ACL executive producer Terry Lickona said. “To begin, we celebrate the great John Prine, who was one of the early victims of the Covid pandemic. We’ll also look back at Austin’s pride and joy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, 3 decades since his passing. But, as always, we’ll welcome some first-timers and spotlight the best of what’s happening in Austin today.”
