Phil Lesh & Friends Play Socially Distanced Concert At Terrapin Crossroads

118

Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh teamed up with his son, guitarist Grahame Lesh as well as keyboardist Jason Crosby and guitarist Stu Allen for a socially distanced concert at the Terrapin Crossroads Backyard in San Rafael, California’s Beach Park on Wednesday. The performance marked the first event at Terrapin since June.

Deadheadland’s full report notes news of the concert was sent via email to Terrapin Crossroads patrons that bought tickets to a pair
of June tributes at the venue/restaurant which were canceled after an employee became sick. Those customers were given an opportunity to purchase tickets to last night’s show, which sold out without a formal public announcement.

Wednesday’s show was billed as Stu Allen, Grahame Lesh and Jason Crosby with Phil’s participation a surprise that wasn’t revealed in the email sent to patrons. The quartet performed before an audience consisting of 36 tables with two people at each as per Deadheadland. All attendees were asked to wear masks and to stay within the boundaries of the spaced-out tables, rules that were repeated by Phil after the band opened with “Uncle John’s Band.”

Stu handled lead vocals on the “Eyes Of The World” that followed Phil’s “Mask Rap” and then dueted with Grahame on “Jack Straw.” Phil Lesh had his first chance fronting the band on “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo.” A 16+ minute pairing of “China Cat Sunflower” into “Playing In The Band” came next before Phil and his friends said farewell with an upbeat version of “Ripple.”
