The Beatles will release their first official book in two decades with the planned 2021 arrival of The Beatles: Get Back, which was announced by the famous rock band on Wednesday.
The 240-page book will arrive next summer on August 31, 2021, via Apple Corps/Callaway Arts and Entertainment, and will look to share more light behind the band’s notable 1970 Let It Be studio album, which would go on to be their last. The content to be featured in the book includes transcribed conversations with the four members from 120+ hours during the band’s Let It Be recording sessions as edited by John Harris, along with hundreds of previously unpublished photographs from Ethan A. Russell and Linda McCartney.

The forthcoming book will coincide with the release of Peter Jackson‘s feature documentary on the band’s final studio album by the same name due out in theaters on August 27th, 2021. Jackson will also pen the book’s forward, while British playwright Hanif Kureishi will provide the introduction. Jackson’s film will revisit the sessions using over 55 hours of unreleased, original 16-millimeter footage filmed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969, which has since been restored.
“It would be fair to say that today ‘Let It Be’ symbolizes the breaking up of The Beatles,” Jackson said with the announcement. “That’s the mythology, the truth is somewhat different. The real story of Let It Be has been locked in the vaults of Apple Corps for the last fifty years.”

Kureishi also added, “In fact this was a productive time for them, when they created some of their best work. And it is here that we have the privilege of witnessing their early drafts, the mistakes, the drift and digressions, the boredom, the excitement, joyous jamming and sudden breakthroughs that led to the work we now know and admire.”
