The String Cheese Incident released a live album from the Lory Student Center on the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins from February 11, 1999 as part of their On The Road archival series. The previously unheard concert will only be available until 9 p.m. ET/12 a.m. PT tonight via Bandcamp.
The vintage show from SCI’s home state sees the band performing a number of jazz songs in their early repertoire beginning with Jean Luc Ponty’s “Rhum ‘n’ Zouc” ahead of the Cheese classic “100 Year Flood” which heads into the Vassar Clements’ tune “Lonesome Fiddle Blues.” “Sand Dollar” and “Cottonmouth” come ahead of the closing segment of John Coltrane’s “Impressions” into “San Jose.”
The now rare “Suntan” by pianist Michel Camilo gets the second set underway ahead of another rarity in “Wake Up,” which heads into The Stanley Brothers bluegrass standard “How Mountain Girls Can Love.” After “MLT,” “Shine” gets into “Drums” before the set closing section of the Kyle Hollinsgworth-composed “Got What He Wanted” and the Billy Nershi-penned classic “Restless Wind.” SCI would then treat the home state crowd to Miles Davis’ “All Blues” — which the band recently busted out in 2019 after a 15 year hiatus, as per Phantasy Tour — followed by the Aerosmith rocker “Walk This Way.”
