As tributes continue to pour in for guitar hero Eddie Van Halen, who died on Tuesday, Aqueous offered their own remembrance with a cover of “Jump”. The band’s debut performance of the 1984 hit comes from Aqueous’ August 8th concert at the Silver Lake Drive-In in Perry, NY.
News of Van Halen’s passing on Tuesday has struck a major blow in the world of live music. A generation of guitarists, many of whom head the top-billed jam acts of today, looked to Eddie’s iconic playing as an inspiration throughout their formative years. The members of Aqueous certainly weren’t immune to the guitarist’s electrifying musicianship.
Coming in at the end of a marathon triple encore, the band’s version of “Jump” features drummer Rob Houk on vocals. Meanwhile, former Aqueous drummer Ryan Nogle sits in on percussion as Houk does his best David Lee Roth impersonation—complete with pants-splitting kicks—of the high-octane tune. As Houk belts out the song—with surprisingly sufficient vocals for a man of the sticks—guitarist Mike Gantzer waits in the wings for his guitar hero moment and Dave Loss takes on the iconic keyboard riff.
