Dave Matthews Band frontman Dave Matthews played a seven-song set at the Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville, Virginia that was broadcast as part of the final day of the Save Our Stages Fest on Sunday. Matthews and over 30 other artists performed at venues across the country for three-day #SOSFest, which was created by YouTube Music and the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) to raise awareness for independent music venues struggling financially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and funds for the NIVA Emergency Relief Fund.
Charlottesville is the city that birthed DMB. Dave’s performance at the Jefferson Theater was his first at the venue since December 12, 1993. Matthews kicked off his 32-minute set with “Oh” from his debut solo album, 2003’s Some Devil. “It’s nice to be in this beautiful Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville, Virginia,” Matthews said. “It would be nicer if there was an audience here to play for but now is not the time for that. It’s still a beautiful place to be and it feels a little bit lonely.”
Dave continued the set with DMB classic “Bartender” and then went back to Some Devil for “Gravedigger.” He spoke of the importance of small venues in his career in between songs. Next, Matthews performed “Singing From The Windows,” a song he premiered earlier this year. A rousing “Save Me” followed before Dave presented the debut of a new original titled “The Ocean And The Butterfly” as per DMBAlmanac. Matthews concluded the set with “Some Devil,” the title track from his 2003 debut studio album.
