This past weekend, Green Day seminal 1995 Insomniac studio album turned 25. In honor of one of the pop-punk band’s most defining career works, Green Day has shared a vast catalog of material from the Insomniac era, including an MTV performance video, rare merch, and a mini-documentary of their 1995–1996 tour of Europe.
The highlight of the catalog of archival material is the newly-released, 20-minute mini-documentary on the band’s tour of Europe. This feature also includes 16mm footage of a never-before-seen show the band played at Sportovni Hala in Prague on March 26th, 1996, audio of which is included on the new vinyl. Coming off the commercial success of 1994’s Dookie, Insomniac sent the group into the stratosphere as they played arenas across Europe and took their stage presence to the next level.
Also featured with the new releases is a video of Green Day performing “Brain Stew” on MTV’s Hanging Out in 1996. The in-studio performance of Insomniac‘s top single which also had a video video that ended up in regular MTV rotation, is a far cry from the raucous onstage antics shown in the Europe documentary but is still ripe with the original punk mentality that defined the band.
In a statement about the Insomniac anniversary, the band said,
Insomniac is finally old enough to rent a car (or whatever else you can do when you’re 25, we’re not lawyers), so we remastered it to celebrate, and we’re throwing in some bonus goodies to boot! This limited edition translucent orange vinyl double LP includes the cover art printed on prismatic silver foil as well as an additional LP with 8 rare or never previously released live tracks from the Prague stop of the Insomniac world tour on March 26, 1996 and an etched b-side.

Insomnia is set for a remastered reissue on translucent orange vinyl, with the cover art printed on prismatic silver foil. The reissue will also feature a bonus LP with live tracks from the Prague concert shown in the new documentary.
In addition to the vinyl and the videos, Green Day is also re-releasing original Insomniac merch from the 1995–96 tour. Lastly, the band is selling limited edition prints of the original Winston Smith artwork that the Insomniac album cover is from, with all proceeds going to the Alameda County Community Food Bank. F
