Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires are featured in the latest installment of Osiris Media podcast Southern Songs And Stories. The husband and wife duo each sat for separate interviews with host Joe Kendrick that were weaved together into one episode.
Isbell and Shires spoke with Kendrick about a wide variety of topics ranging from life during the pandemic to songwriting for the recently released Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit album Reunions to common misconceptions of their lives and more. Jason also discussed the impact the south has on his music and why so much good music was created in the south, and specifically his home state of Alabama.
“I feel like a lawyer who did well enough to buy a bunch of nice guitars and now I’m retired from my legal practice,” Jason quipped as part of a description of a typical day during the pandemic. Meanwhile, Amanda explained how her love of painting developed. “I think it’s really a good way to focus heavily on something … for me it’s just relaxing and a way to observe the world more tightly,” Shires said. “It just seems less noisy, painting, [than] all the news.”
