Marcus King Appears On Tom Segura & Christina Pazsitzky’s Comedy Podcast, ‘Your Mom’s House’ [Watch]

It’s always nice when two of your worlds collide, and that happened in spectacular fashion on Wednesday when Marcus King appeared on Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky’s podcast, Your Mom’s House. One of the last times I was at Brooklyn Bowl (back when concerts were a thing) was to see Marcus, and getting to see his name pop up in my YouTube feed was a great way to start my day.

For those unaware of Your Mom’s House, it may be hard to understand why finding out that Marcus is a mommy is truly such a big deal. Tom and Christina have been podcasting for over ten years, putting out an episode every week, and have consistently created some of the funniest, “coolest”, and most NSFW content the medium has ever seen. The show is full of inside jokes that relate to the un-ending stream of content they mine from the nooks and depths of the Internet. With characters such as the Fedsmoker, Good Morning Julia, and the infamous Robert Paul Champagne, perhaps their most famous collection of videos consists of the “Cool Guy Club.” An iconic signifier of this club is the guitar riff that plays multiple times an episode. Marcus was quick to point out that the riff is actually quite difficult to play, but after some help from his producer—and much practice—he was able to get it down.

One theme that emerged throughout the episode was the similarity between comedians and musicians. Tom and Marcus bonded over both having performed at the Peace Pavilion in Greenville, South Carolina. Christina remarked that comedians and musicians are kindred spirits, and Marcus agreed, adding, “Comedians are gifted enough to say the things musicians aren’t gifted enough to say.” Both of them need good, natural timing in order to best perform their respective crafts. The road life that both professions endure leads to very similar lifestyles. Marcus noted that when he’s done with a show, or on the road to next one, he listens to comedy podcasts like Your Mom’s House, while Tom listens to music after his shows. It was a beautiful moment that opened my mind to the endless connections between these two worlds, and was promptly and abruptly interrupted by one of Christina’s curated TikToks.

When Tom mentioned the perils of performing at venues as a young comic, where owners will take advantage of you, Marcus was quick to share some advice that his grandfather, a musician himself, had shared: “My grandfather’s wisdom was to just start stealing their sh-t—barstool, PA equipment, whatever you can get your hands on.” King recalled a time early in his career (he’s currently 24, this happened when he was 16) when an owner refused to pay him after a show; after taking his grandfather’s advice and, in turn, prompting some police involvement, Marcus realized that he was not necessarily growing up in a typical teenage fashion. Marcus is spending his time in L.A. at the moment, and even hinted at something to look forward to from him… but wouldn’t go into detail.

Your Mom’s House has a guest every week, and the best episodes are the ones where the guest is a fan. Some of the content on the show is very… niche… and if the guests know what to expect, Tom and Christina are able to get better, more nuanced reactions to these clips. Some (lets be real, most) of the content is NSFW (even WFH, as my roommates have pointed out to me on more than one occasion) and Marcus took no issue with informing Tom and Christina that sometimes he will get odd looks when one of their clips plays too long or too loudly. This came much to their amusement.

Overall, I would say this episode definitely followed proto, kept it high and tight, and was definitely NOT stingy. If that didn’t make any sense to you, maybe you need to start watching Your Mom’s House.

Get a taste with Marcus’ YMH “Top 5″—in which he talks about his daily hair routine, mentions New York’s Beacon Theatre as his favorite place to play at (and Red Rocks as his favorite venue to be at), expresses his desire to work with artists like Q-Tip or Skrillex as producers, and more—and watch the full episode below.
