The Allman Betts Band continued their tour of drive-in and socially-distanced concerts with a two-night run at The Birchmere this week. The Alexandria, VA venue hosted the pod concerts on October 26th and 27th as the band keeps up a prodigious touring schedule, given the limitations of the pandemic.
Next The Allman Betts Band are off to the Coca Cola Roxy in Atlanta, GA on Thursday, followed by shows at Walhalla Performing Arts Center in South Carolina (10/30), and Riverfront Live in Cincinnati, OH (11/1).
The two-night run of pod concerts saw the Southern rock group exploring their own catalog of originals, including their latest album Bless Your Heart. Each show also saw a fair share of covers, including the Grateful Dead‘s “Shakedown Street” which was played both nights. Bandleaders Devon Allman, Duane Betts, as well as Berry Oakley Jr. also paid tribute to their fathers’ work in the Allman Brothers Bands with covers spread across the two shows, including “Blue Sky”, “Midnight Rider”, “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”, and “Dreams”. The band also explored their wider sphere of influences, featuring songs by Tom Petty, Prince, Muddy Waters, and Donald Fagen.
