Baltimore-based funk quartet Pigeons Playing Ping Pong have released a new live album with recordings from their “Stop Making Cake” Halloween show in New Haven, CT last fall.
The album’s surprise arrival on Friday marks the band’s second-ever live release, following their 2017’s The Great Outdoors Jam. Known for their annual creative concert themes for Halloween and New Year’s Eve, fans are able to relive the third and final show from the band’s three-night “Stop Making Sense” Halloween run at College Street Music Hall on November 2nd, 2019, that saw the funky four-piece deliver memorable covers of Talking Heads and Cake tunes intermixed with their own psychedelic originals. The November 2nd performance followed the previous northeast Halloween shows at Boston, MA’s House Of Blues on October 31st and New York City’s Playstation Theater on November 1st.
Aside from being the Halloween run closer, the 28-track live release also includes first set sit-ins with the West End Blend horns on Cake’s “Short Skirt / Long Jacket” and “Hem Of Your Garment”, Talking Heads’ “And She Was”, and PPPP originals “White Night” and “Fortress”. Completing the night’s spooky shenanigans, set two features a raging sit-in from Goose’s Peter Anspach on a transition through the band’s “Zydeko” and a stylistic cover of the Talking Heads’ “Once In a Lifetime”.

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong – Stop Making Cake: Halloween 2019 (Live In New Haven, CT)
Following their hiatus from performing due to COVID-19 throughout the spring and first half of summer, Pigeons were back in action for their Time To Drive-In tour earlier this fall, and are set to play at two-night Halloween run at Richmond, VA’s Drive-In at The Diamond on October 30th-31st.
