Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright is featured in the next episode of Austin City Limits, which premieres on PBS this Saturday, October 24 at 9 p.m. ET. JamBase is pleased to preview Wainwright’s first ever appearance on the long-running live music television series by premiering his performance of “Peaceful Afternoon” from the intimate hour with Rufus.
Rufus’ set for Austin City Limits was filmed in early September. Wainwright made history as the first artist to perform for ACL without an audience in the program’s 46 years. “I like to say we make history every time an artist makes their debut on Austin City Limits,” said ACL executive producer Terry Lickona in a statement, “but this was historic on a grand scale. Taping without an audience in the midst of the pandemic, uncertain whether it was even possible, was an emotional experience. Rufus delivered an epic performance like no other.”
The Rufus Wainwright episode of Austin City Limits features 11 songs. Studio versions of the first 10, including “Peaceful Afternoon,” were originally released by Wainwright in July on his latest studio album, Unfollow The Rules. The episode concludes with protest song “Going To A Town” from Rufus’ 2007 LP, Release The Stars.
