Rejoice 90’s kids! Your alt-rock demigods the Smashing Pumpkins have blown up the internet this morning with news that a new double album is on the way.

A thematic and spiritual successor to their iconic Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness and Machina records, the 33 track (yes, 33!) release will complete a trilogy the band started way back in 1995.

Smashing Pumpkins announced the double album, today, alongside plans for an epic Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness 25th-anniversary tour AND an exclusive ZOOM QNA session with Billy and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain.

Billy Corgan hit up YouTube confirming the record is the final part of a conceptual trilogy “It’s a sequel to ‘Melon Collie…’ and ‘Machina, it’s kind of a rock opera.” “We feel like in many ways this completes the circle on everything we started and weren’t able to finish at that time, so we’re very excited!”

Today marks 25 years since Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness was released. Home to Smashing Pumpkins classics ‘Tonight, Tonight’, ‘Zero’, ‘1979’ and ‘Bullet with Butterfly Wings’, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is iconic.

The band planned to celebrate the 25th anniversary by releasing the full tour details, but due to 2020 being 2020, they’ve had to switch things up a bit.

The good news is that Smashing Pumpkins fans will have a very rare opportunity to talk to Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain. Of course, this isn’t the only new Smashing Pumpkins music on the way. Their new double album Cyr is set to drop on 27 November with tracks ‘CYR’, ‘The Colour of Love’, ‘Confessions of a Dopamine Addict’ and ‘Wrath” among the many delicious tastes we’ve had so far. In classic Corgan/Smashing Pumpkins style Cyr will be accompanied by a five-part animated series In Ashes.
