The War On Drugs Announce Live Album ‘LIVE DRUGS’ & Share ‘Pain’ Single

93

On November 20, The War On Drugs will issue a live album entitled LIVE DRUGS via frontman Adam Granduciel’s Super High Quality Records imprint. The band previewed LIVE DRUGS by sharing “Pain,” one of 10 tracks on the LP.

The first The War On Drugs release since 2017’s A Deeper Understanding features the best tracks from 40 hard drives containing live performances spanning 2014 – 2019. Granduciel tapped Dominic East to co-produce LIVE DRUGS. The album has been sequenced to simulate a live The War On Drugs concert and includes songs dating back to “Buenos Aires Blues” from the band’s 2008 self-titled debut as well as a cover of Warren Zevon’s “Accidentally Like A Martyr.”

“As a band leader, I always want to know where a song can go,” Granduciel explained in a statement. “Even though we’ve recorded it, mastered it, put it out, and been touring on it, it doesn’t mean that we just have to do it the same way forever. It feels like it’s kind of a reset, to be able to put something out that’s a really good interpretation of the way we interpret our music live. Even though this recording is from a year of tours, this is really how these six guys evolved as a band from 2014 to 2019.”
