Turkuaz Unites Virtually For “Electric Habitat” At Democracy Comes Alive [Watch]

80

On Saturday, October 3rd, nine-piece power funk outfit Turkuaz took part in Democracy Comes Alive, a one-day, nonpartisan virtual music festival aimed at channeling the power of music to make a critical impact on civic engagement in this November’s elections and beyond.

The members of Turkuaz linked up virtually from all over the country to deliver a lively take on “Electric Habitat” from 2014’s Future 86 for Democracy Comes Alive. Despite the physical distance, the virtual take came across with the electric energy of a true live performance, a feeling we’ve all been missing this year.

Following the performance, frontman Dave Brandwein thanked viewers for participating and making a difference for an importance cause. He also clued fans in on the new web series he is producing with Live For Live Music founder Kunj ShahKeep Your Mind In Tune, which aims to give music fans a better understanding of the issues we face in the U.S. today via interviews with experts—including professors, authors, lawyers, activists, and law enforcement—covering various timely topics, all hosted by a weekly rotating panel of musicians. Follow Keep Your Mind In Tune here for updates and new episodes.

Turkuaz – “Electric Habitat” – Democracy Comes Alive

The performance for Democracy Comes Alive put Turkuaz at three-for-three on Live For Live Music‘s 2020 virtual “Comes Alive” festivals. For Justice Comes Alive back in June, the band took a stand against racism with the debut of new song “The Sideline“, an appeal to all listeners to pause and educate themselves on the ways systemic racism continues to permeate our society. In May, the group took over an entire block of the Quarantine Comes Alive schedule with virtual performances from Dave Brandwein and vocalist Shira Elias as well as a full, five-song Turkuaz set.
