Warren Haynes Covers Pink Floyd, Little Feat & More In Connecticut

Warren Haynes returned to South Farms in Morris, Connecticut on Thursday for his fifth of six socially distanced outdoor concerts at the venue. Haynes performed originals and choice covers from the likes of Pink Floyd, Little Feat and more as part of last night’s show, which also featured his Gov’t Mule band mate multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis for the bulk of the evening.

The guitarist kicked off the night with “Don’t Know Where We’re Going (But We’ll Get There),” an original he debuted at his first South Farms concert that has also opened each show since. “Don’t Know Where We’re Going” has been the lone repeat of the run.

Haynes followed with a rare cover of Gordon Lightfoot’s “Affair On 8th Avenue” and then along with Louis dug into the Gov’t Mule catalog for “So Weak, So Strong” and “Gordon James.” The latter was played just twice by Mule since 2013. Another rarity came next as Warren presented his first “Angel City” in nearly a decade. Next, Louis added to the blues standard “Goin’ Down Slow.” The pair ended the frame with Van Morrison’s “Ballerina,” “A Friend To You” from Warren’s Man In Motion LP and the Pink Floyd classic “Fearless.”

Warren began the second set by his lonesome for “Old Friend” from the final The Allman Brothers Band studio album, Hittin’ The Note, as well as a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “The Big Muddy” and “Back Where I Started,” a tune Haynes wrote with Derek Trucks. Louis emerged for the rest of the night starting with Mule staple “Thorazine Shuffle” and covers of Elvis Costello’s “Alison” and Little Feat’s “Sailin’ Shoes.”

The pair brought the set to a close with “Nothing Again” from Mule’s High & Mighty LP and a take on Robert Petway’s “Catfish Blues.” Louis showed off his bass skills on the latter number. Haynes said farewell with “Dreams & Songs.” Warren ends the season at South Farms on November 1.
