Wilco Shares “Candyfloss” Demo From Upcoming ‘Summerteeth’ Reissue [Listen]

Last month, Wilco announced the deluxe reissue of the band’s 1999 album Summerteeth, due out on November 6th. On Thursday, the band gave a preview of the many nuggets found on the expanded edition with a demo version of “Candyfloss”.

Summerteeth marked the alternative Americana group’s third full-length studio effort, which rose to No. 78 on the Billboard 200 chart and was Wilco’s first to crack the Top 40 in the United Kingdom. The expanded edition comes in either LP or CD form, with the former featuring a never-before-heard performance from Wilco at Tower Records on March 11th, 1999; and the later containing the band’s November 1st, 1999 show at the Boulder Theater in Colorado.

As might be expected, the newly-released demo version of “Candyfloss” finds much less instrumentation than found on the final product. Rather, the song sounds like its just Jeff Tweedy and his acoustic guitar. Instead of on the official version, which carries an almost Beach Boys-type flurry of sounds, this takes on a more naked, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot type of feel. Instead on the demo, the lyrics are at the forefront and ultimately gives a greater appreciation for everything Wilco does on the final cut of “Candyfloss”.

Listen to the demo version of “Candyfloss” found on the upcoming re-release of Wilco’s Summerteeth. To pre-order the deluxe reissue of Summerteeth head to the band’s website.
