Atlanta’s own Big Boi and Sleepy Brown appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday to perform a new remix of Organized Noize‘s, “We The Ones”. ATL natives and fellow Dungeon Family members Killer Mike and Big Rube joined the duo for the nationally televised performance.
Big Rube opened the performance standing at a podium branded with the “Seal of the Street Politician of the United States”. He delivered a solemn call to action from the podium, compelling listeners to stand up, fight, and “test [their] might,” before giving way to Big Boi and Sleepy Brown.
Here, Sleepy Brown’s higher-register vocals took center stage. Lines like “Stand up to oppression/Stand up to all aggression/Stand up, it’s time to choose/So your children will never lose” set up Big Boi’s socially- and politically- focused verse. Killer Mike then arrived to the stage just before the third verse and delivered his unique brand of conscious rap before giving way to the chorus, which features vocals from CeeLo Green.
Before the performance ended, Big Rube took the mic once more for the outro. He told viewers, “This is a new flight plan/Applied in course of truth, not fiction/No longer is the focus the irrelevant friction/Between the yellow, the red, the black and white man/We seek the true source, speak with a new voice.”
