Brendan Bayliss Covers Radiohead, Paul Simon & More For ‘Wine Not?’

101

Brendan Bayliss resumed his Wine Not? livestream series on Friday. The Umphrey’s McGee guitarist offered up covers from Radiohead, Paul Simon and more.

Bayliss began by saying, “I have a lot to get to before I get started, couple announcements.” He then brandished the setlist. “It’s mostly names of people that have Venmoed me requests,” he continued. “Some of them are really good suggestions, some of them are not very good, some of them are terrible suggestions.” He then prefaced the first song by saying “Before I get started I’m gonna play a song that I would like to play that I’ve never played before by myself.” Brendan then went ahead with the David Bowie classic “Golden Years” which jumped right into Umphrey’s “No Comment,” which saw Bayliss calling back to “Golden Years.” “No Comment” then segued into Alt-J’s “Something Good” to close out the three-song opening sequence.

Bayliss continued with Cat Stevens’ “Where Do The Children Play” before getting into the UM classic “The Crooked One” which headed into more Umphrey’s with “Loose Ends.” Bayliss then delivered a solid version of Paul Simon’s “Graceland” complete with the tasty guitar licks. Next, Annie Bayliss joined in to play Chrissie Hynde for the Pretenders classic “Brass In Pocket” before BB went it alone on Pearl Jam’s “Footsteps.” Brendan then delivered the UM rarity “Rocker,” which has only been played 17 times by the band since its debut in 2006 with over half of those plays coming that same year, as per All Thing Umphreys. UM’s “Made To Measure,” while not as rare as “Rocker” the song has seen roughly a play per year the last few tours, came next. Annie would get back in the mix to help Brendan on a hilarious rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep” and stayed on for 30db’s (Bayliss and Jeff Austin’s side project) “Backfire.” The stream concluded with an impartial “One Man Show,” the title track to 30db’s one and only album released in 2010.
