Genre: Rock

The 411:

SEABASS have become one of Adelaide’s brightest new acts, bringing together a love for instrumentation and high energy in their delivery of sick indie rock sounds. The last month has seen their single ‘BURN’ out and doing its thing, a fitting precursor for the release of their debut EP Always Kidding, due out in 2021. Similarly to the likes of The Jezabels and WAAX, SEABASS bring an unbridled sense of emotion to their songwriting, backed by some fine-tuned, indie-rock sounds. Their messages are also direct and fervent, with the band utilising their platform to spread awareness about the causes they are passionate about.

“‘Burn’ is a good wake up call track,” Ryan Martin John from the band says.

“We usually start the show with it and it’s like a slap in the face. Also, it’s a commentary on the bushfires that happened at the start of 2020, and mainly directed at that idiot who tried to make things better by forcing handshakes with locals after they lost their homes.”

The band has been generating great momentum locally since their inception (their first gig was supporting Pussy Riot in 2019, what?) and even though this year has forced them off stage, SEABASS have been pouring everything into the formation of this EP, which is set to be the perfect introduction point to a strong new band dynamic.

Review:

‘Burn’ is a fun, energetic release from SEABASS. The percussion and guitar riffs keep up with each other through the track keeping this serotonin-inducing beat while the vocals offer this stunningly-controlled emotion throughout. A bloody good release.
