His company first started working with Phish initially on the medical side at the band’s 1996 Clifford Ball festival and eventually became their Director Of Security as per a 2018 Relix feature on Carl .

Read a note penned by Trey Anastasio in the wake of Carl Monzo’s passing:

I was heartbroken to hear that Carl Monzo, my friend and Phish’s head of security for the past decade, passed away this morning. Phish is a family, and Carl was a beloved member of that family. Whenever I arrived at a venue on the bus, Carl’s smiling face was always the first to welcome me. In the hallways outside of our dressing rooms, when we showed up at a venue and when we left at the end of the night, Carl was everywhere. He was always laughing and smiling, and made us feel safe and relaxed. My heart goes out to Carl’s wife Pattyann, as well as to the rest of Carl’s family. He will be deeply missed.

“Today, we mourn the loss of Carl Monzo, Phish’s director of security for most of the past decade,” began a statement from the band. “A fixture at every show, Carl worked tirelessly for the safety of both the band and fans alike. A beloved member of the Phish family, he will be deeply missed.”

“So sad about the passing of Carl Monzo, our head of security, who was great at what he did and also one of the kindest people in the whole music business,” added Phish bassist Mike Gordon. “Via con Dios, Carl. Thank you for all you did for us,” noted Bob Weir.
