Hip-hop/bluegrass hybridact Gangstagrass earned some well-deserved attention earlier this year with the arrival of the band’s latest full-length studio album, No Time For Enemies. The 11-track album from the five-piece group does a fine job of pushing the possibilities of how far the two respective musical styles can soar when given the right touch and performance.
One of the songs included on the album is “Affirmative”, which was tracked at the respective homes of each band member during lockdown earlier this year, although the actual song was written prior to the COVID-19 outbreak in the spring. Today, Live For Live Music is thrilled to premiere the band’s new lyric video for “Affirmative”, which sees the group mask up for a mix of footage captured on stage during a live performance combined with new footage filmed in the backstreets of Philadelphia.
The song also acts as a shout-out to Gangstagrass fans while reminding viewers that we’re all in this together, as evident in the lyrics, “Fans, supporters, they gimme that fo’ sho love.”
As the band’s guitarist/singer, Rench, explains about “Affirmative”, “This moment in the U.S. and the world may have a lot of uncertainty and some scary stuff happening, but I also see a lot of potential for this to be part of a transformation in positive directions, a sort of growing pains. I see so much energy and passion for making things better, and that deserves a song to just say ‘Yeah we are going to do this, we won’t be stopped’ – to put some confident energy out there for anyone, even if it’s just to survive through something or to handle your business, as long as you are here and are down with a diverse future where we coexist and have each other’s backs, you are part of that future coming into existence.”
