Reed Mathis, Sean Nelson & Brian Rashap Cover Bob Dylan’s ‘Blood On The Tracks’

82

Reed Mathis shared video of a full performance of Bob Dylan’s Blood On The Tracks album. The trio features Mathis on guitar and vocals along with Sean Nelson on drums and Brian Rashap on bass.

Dylan’s 1975 LP Blood On The Tracks is widely considered one of the legendary singer-songwriter’s best albums. Mathis and company kick off the backyard session with a little noise making before jumping into a funky version of the record’s opening track, “Tangled Up In Blue,” which they do more akin to the Jerry Garcia Band version. The trio continued on with the poignant tale of fleeting love, “Simple Twist of Fate.”

A little over halfway through the tune, Reed’s beloved Red Fender Twin amp goes down. Thankfully, JamBase co-founder Andy Gadiel had an extra amp and makes a quick switch and cameo. In a Facebook post, Mathis gives a shout out to Andy for saving the day and says, “now we call this ‘A Simple Switch of Amps’” and also reveals that he sings the Rolling Thunder Revue live album lyrics rather than the Blood On The Tracks version.

The set also sees the band on favorites like “You’re A Big Girl Now,” the scathing “Idiot Wind,” the reflective “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go,” the funky “Meet Me In The Morning” and the stellar “Shelter From The Storm.” The trio also includes the Tracks outtake, “Up To Me,” which would later appear on the 1985 box set, Biograph, as well as the more recent outtake collection, More Blood, More Tracks.
