UPDATE: Spafford Pivots NYE Pod Concert Run To Livestream-Only Shows Due To Rising COVID-19 Cases

Due to the worsening situation with regard to the pandemic, Spafford has called off the in-person portion of their two-night New Year’s run, set to take place in the backyard of The Marquee Theatre in Tempe, AZ. As the band explains, “It’s with deep regret that we must announce our New Year’s run will be unable to be in person and has been changed to a Live-Stream only event. There’s absolutely nothing we wanted more than to see all of you dancing and living in the music – however your health, our health, and the general public’s health is the top priority right now. We will be postponing these dates and will take the NYE party online and into the safety and comfort of your own homes.” The in-person shows at the Marquee Theatre backyard have been rescheduled for April 30th and 31st, 2021.

Despite the pivot, fans can still enjoy a Spafford livestream this New Year’s. The band will stream performances on the two originally-scheduled nights via Mandolin. [11/19/20] Spafford will return to the stage for a two-night run of New Year’s Eve concerts in Tempe, AZ, the band announced on Thursday. The shows, slated for December 30th and 31st, will take place in a socially-distanced, pod-style format in the backyard of The Marquee Theatre in Tempe.

This announcement comes over six months after Spafford’s last full live concert, which took place at the Digital Drive-In in Mesa, AZ. That show saw the Arizona-bred quartet ride the first wave of drive-in concerts throughout the country, but the group has since remained in quarantine aside from a recent virtual appearance at Democracy Comes Alive.

In what has been dubbed “The Backyard” at The Marquee Theatre, the lot has been broken up into pods which are sold to groups of no greater than six guests. These pods will allow for social distancing as well as space each party six feet apart. Spafford’s New Year’s Eve performance will also see the band play three sets, with the December 30th show taking the usual two-set format.

“2009-2010 NYE was the first ‘billed’ Spafford show. So this is our 11th birthday,” the band said in a statement. “We haven’t ever missed playing on NYE and we damn sure aren’t missing this year. Despite the ups and downs of 2020 let’s end this year on a high note. We want to bring people music and joy in the safest way possible to celebrate the end of a crazy year and send prosperity to the years ahead.”

Tickets for Spafford at The Marquee Theatre in Tempe, AZ on December 30th and 31st go on sale Friday, November 20th at 10 a.m. MT. Click here to purchase tickets and for more information on the event’s safety protocols.
