Steve Earle & The Dukes Share ‘Harlem River Blues’ From Justin Townes Earle Tribute Album

82

Steve Earle and The Dukes honor Justin Townes Earle, Steve’s son who died in August, with an album entitled J.T. The band previewed the tribute album, which will be released digitally through New West Records on January 4, 2021 with physical releases to follow in March, by sharing the J.T. track “Harlem River Blues.”

J.T. consists of 10 Justin Townes Earle covers as well as “Last Words,” a song Steve penned in honor of his son. The release date of January 4, 2021 would have been Justin’s 39th birthday.

“The record is called J.T. because Justin was never called anything else until he was nearly grown. Well, when he was little, I called him Cowboy,” explained Steve Earle in a statement. “For better or worse, right or wrong, I loved Justin Townes Earle more than anything else on this earth. That being said, I made this record, like every other record I’ve ever made… for me. It was the only way I knew to say goodbye.”

All artist advances and royalties from the 11-track LP will go towards a trust set up for Justin and Jenn Earle’s three-year-old daughter, Etta St. James Earle. Listen to Steve Earle & The Dukes’ rendition of “Harlem River Blues” below:
