Folk troubadour Todd Snider has shared a video of his cover of Neil Young‘s “Hey Hey, My My” from the November 15th edition of his First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder livestream. The three-month run of webcasts sees Snider go live from The Purple Building in East Nashville, TN every Sunday to perform one of his albums in its entirety, in addition to some choice covers.

Snider’s November 15th show saw him revisit his 2004 album, East Nashville Skyline, as well as the classic Young track. Then this Sunday’s performance featured Snider looking back at his 2006 album, The Devil You Know.

Snider opens the cover—which actually serves as the show’s closer—with his congregation’s motto, “From the First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder, where we’re always hoping for something and always wondering what the f*ck.” With that, he launches into the cover of the 1979 Rust Never Sleeps track which finds Snider approaching the song with much the same gritty, acoustic nature as Young did on that live album.

Given how much Snider and the greater music world has been through in this past year, the track’s timeless story of the Johnny Rotten and how it’s better to burn out than fade away rings truer than ever. Earlier this year, Snider said goodbye to one of his greatest influences in John Prine, and in just the past month lost both Jerry Jeff Walker and Billy Joe Shaver. As he contemplates Young’s immortal words, Snider himself stands the test of time and proves that he will not fade away.
