Watch 1973 Brian Eno Documentary ‘Eno’

85

For a self-described “non-musician,” Brian Eno has managed to have a huge impact on the music world. The legendary ambient pioneer and producer has collaborated with King Crimson’s Robert Fripp, David Bowie and David Byrne among others. His resume as a producer spans generations, producing works by Talking Heads, U2, Coldplay, Damon Albarn and many more.

But the focus of a 1973 documentary, Eno, is Brian’s solo material. Chronicling the time shortly after his departure as the synthesizer player for glam rock band Roxy Music, the Alfons Sinniger-directed short film sees Eno recording his 1974 debut solo album, Here Come The Warm Jets, and gives an inside look at the creative process of one of the most influential and innovative figures in popular music.

“The synthesizer the way I play it doesn’t need any manual skill,” Eno explains in the documentary. “You don’t have to be clever to turn a knob. So what I’m saying is that I have attempted to replace the element of skill considered necessary in music by the element of judgment.”

Eno recently surfaced on YouTube. Watch it below via James Ivy for this edition of Sunday Cinema:
