Wolfgang Van Halen unveiled his debut solo single, “Distance,” which is credited to his new band, Mammoth WVH. The song and its accompanying video are dedicated to Wolfgang’s father, Eddie Van Halen, who died at age 65 last month.
“As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him. While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life,” said Wolfgang as per Guitar World.
“I never intended ‘Distance’ to be the very first piece of music people would hear from me, but I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release,” Wolfgang added. “This is for him. I love and miss you, Pop.”
Wolfgang Van Halen joined Van Halen in 2006. He put together the band Mammoth WVH and started focusing on material for the group in recent years, however put plans for the group on hold when Eddie’s health took a turn for the worse.
Proceeds from “Distance” will benefit his father’s favorite charity, The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. The video for the track features home movies from the Van Halen Family’s personal archives. Check it out below:
