Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters producer Greg Kurstin celebrated the first night of Hanukkah in style on Thursday with a cover of the Beastie Boys hit, “Sabotage”. The cover comes as the first in an eight-part series, the Hanukkah Sessions, set to coincide with the Festival of Lights.

Announced on Thursday, the Hanukkah Sessions will see Grohl and his longtime producer cover a different song by a different Jewish artist for each of the eight nights of Hanukkah. This comes as a shift in dynamic from gentile Grohl’s usual holiday tradition of covering a Christmas song in years past.

From the opening crash of Grohl’s cymbals, it’s on as Kurstin transposes the song’s original bass notes onto the synthesizer. Meanwhile, Grohl appears to do his best impression of the yarmulke-wearing New Yorkers as he rockets his voice up to a ridiculously nasally register. Even a mid-song stick drop, which the video is careful to point out, can’t stop this rocking rendition of the Ill Communication classic that started Hanukkah off with a bang.

Grohl and Kurstin note in the video’s description,

As the only Rock and Roll Hall Of Famers with a lyric about kugel, we thought it would be a shanda to not kick off this party with New York’s (and Abraham’s) finest…known by some as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abedenego, known by others as Ad-Rock, Mike D, and MCA…known by their Imas and Abbas as Adam Horovitz, Mike Diamond and Adam Yauch… Beastie Boys!
