Dexter Grove Shares ‘Life’ Single, 1st Studio Release Since 2001

Dexter Grove shared a new single entitled “Life.” The track is the first studio release from the duo of guitarist Charley Orlando and percussionist Steve Drizos since 2001.

Dexter Grove’s debut album, 4:20 came out in 1995. Their sophomore full-length, True followed in 1998. Relentless touring and several live albums followed, culminating with the release of their third, and final studio album, 2001’s Color Me Naked. Orlando and Drizos held the last Dexter Grove concert in 2004.

Orlando pursued a solo career, issuing a number of records, including his 2020 LP, Note To Self. Drizos, who is the drummer for and produces music from his The Panther recording facility in Portland, will release his debut solo album, Axiom, in January featuring the lead single “Static.”

“Dexter Grove played their last notes on stage together in September of 2004,” Drizos wrote on Instagram. “Since then, Charley and I have remained close friends, despite living on opposite coasts. I am extremely grateful to still have him in my life. We have always entertained the idea of collaborating again, but our busy schedules never seemed to fit it in. Enter a global pandemic, and suddenly we were afforded the time to make good on our long talked about plan. So here is our first collaboration in over 15 years. It feels good to do it again. ‘Life’ was written by Charley, recorded remotely in each of our studios, and mixed at The Panther in Portland, Oregon. Mastered by Jon Neufeld.”

Drizos wife, The Decemberists‘ keyboardist Jenny Conlee, contributed to “Life.” Watch the video for Dexter Grove’s new song “Life” below:
