Co-founding former The Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts was born on this date in 1943. The 77-year-old was an integral part of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inducted group from their formation in 1969 through his forced departure in 2000.

During Betts tenure in The Allman Brothers Band, the Florida native was responsible for writing many of the legendary rock group’s most recognizable and popular songs. Betts wrote several hits like “Ramblin’ Man,” “Blue Sky” and “Revival (Love Is Everywhere)” and as well as several well-known instrumentals like “Jessica,” “Les Brers In A Minor,” “High Falls” and “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.”

Betts also composed “Southbound,” “Seven Turns” and “No One To Run With,” among several others that were recorded by The Allman Brothers Band.
